Advanced Assessment & Diagnosis
Thorough, evidence-based assessment to identify the true cause of your pain — before any treatment begins.

Who This Is For
Every service at My Advanced Physio starts here — a comprehensive assessment that shapes your care around your specific presentation, not a generic protocol. This page is about that assessment itself, for anyone who wants it as a starting point in its own right.
This service is for anyone who wants a clear, evidence-based explanation of what’s causing their pain — whether you’re seeking an initial diagnosis, a second opinion, or a more thorough assessment than you’ve had before.
We Commonly Help People With
- Pain without a clear diagnosis
- Conflicting advice from different providers
- Wanting a second opinion on a previous diagnosis or plan
- Long-standing symptoms that haven't responded to treatment
- Multiple areas of pain or dysfunction
- Wanting to understand what's going on before starting treatment
Assessment Approach
Assessment begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, history and goals, followed by a comprehensive physical examination — including movement, strength and, where relevant, neurological screening.
This is a differential approach: systematically ruling things in and out, rather than assuming the first likely explanation is correct. The aim is a clear, well-reasoned understanding of what’s driving your symptoms.
This draws on experience across tertiary hospital and private practice settings, including advanced musculoskeletal assessment of complex presentations.
How We Can Help
Clear Explanation of Findings
A plain-language explanation of what's causing your symptoms and why — not just a label.
A Tailored Management Plan
Recommendations based on your specific assessment findings, whether that's physiotherapy treatment, a home program, or referral elsewhere.
Second Opinions
An independent, thorough reassessment if you're unsure about a previous diagnosis or treatment plan.
Coordination With Other Providers
Clear communication and, where appropriate, liaison with your GP or specialist about what the assessment finds.
When Further Investigation or Referral May Be Needed
A thorough physiotherapy assessment can clarify a great deal, but it isn’t a substitute for medical imaging or specialist review where these are genuinely needed. Where your assessment suggests further investigation would help — or where your presentation falls outside the scope of physiotherapy — this will be explained clearly, along with a recommended next step.
Referrals back to your GP or to an appropriate specialist are made when it’s the right thing for your care, not as a default outcome.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment includes a detailed conversation about your symptoms and history, a thorough physical assessment, and time to talk through what we’ve found. You’ll leave with a clear explanation of what’s going on and a recommended next step — whether that’s a treatment plan, a home program, or a referral.
Appointments are longer than many patients are used to, because a genuinely thorough assessment takes time to get right.
